Would you like to join a rich cultural and educational experience with your fellow Sokendai students?

—           are you ready for a Japanese home-stay experience in Uonoma city, Niigata?

—           do you enjoy working with children and interacting with them on different levels – ranging from mere on-the-table discussions to building full-scale science projects?

—           are you ready to broaden your Sokendai network?

Then hop on board the SCOPE journey and be ready to input as much as you can.

The SCOPE is looking for participants.

We will decide the participants by October 22rd, so please do not miss this opportunity!

OBJECTIVE

- Cultural Activity

              introduce your culture to Japanese school children and you experience Japanese school life

- Educational Activity

              introduce your research and share scientific experience, such as DNA extraction and Robot-kit.

LOCATION

- the SCOPE will travel to Minami-Uonuma city, in Niigata prefecture.

PROGRAM/WHEN (Tentative)

- 2 nights and 3 days trip from January 21^st 2010 to January 23^rd 2010

              (01/21)

              Noon                   Reach the city.

              Afternoon            Cultural or Educational Activity

              Evening  Meet the host family (2 students stay at one host family)

              (01/22)

              Morning Visit Elementary Schools – Cultural Activity

              Afternoon             Visit Junior High Schools – Educational Activity

              (01/22)

              Whole Day           Cultural and Educational Activity with the Host family.

              Evening  Leave the city for home.

ACCOMMODATION

- Japanese host family will welcome you.

              2 students home stay with a host family for two nights.

REQUIREMENTS

1. be responsible
2. good communication (good enough to explain your culture in English)
3. must attend a meeting before the visit to the city (travel expense will be paid)
4. must attend the whole three days activities.

NOTE

We are welcoming students from all kinds of background.

However, please be aware that we cannot accept all the applicants due to the budget limitation.

We need to select students according to the need of the SCOPE, considering the balance of the backgrounds both in the culture and in the specialty.

Those who were not able to join this year, you could be a organizing member of the SCOPE and apply for the fund for the next year.
