1. Outline of the Course

The aim of this course is to help students become able to carry out research abroad by students themselves. Students will improve global communication skills and research management skills through finding a host institute, doing research there, communicating with colleagues, experiencing life abroad, etc. Read the syllabus carefully for details.

2. Requirements

This course requires you are a regular student who will carry out research activities in an overseas environment for a period of 4 weeks or more. If you have ever received course credit for the course, you cannot register again.

3. Assessment

  • Research Plan 50% (Before travel)
  • Brief Description of Your Research 20% (After travel)
  • Final Report 30% (After travel)

Submission of all the above assignments and the Opinion from Advisor is a prerequisite for receiving a credit.

Students applying for "SOKENDAI Student Dispatch Program" can substitute this form with the application form for the program.

4. From applying for the course to receiving a credit

Students who will travel supported by SOKENDAI Student Dispatch Program:

  1. When applying for the SOKENDAI Student Dispatch Program, state that you wish to take the International Internship in the application form for the program. You must obtain permission from their supervisor in advance to take the course.
  2. After completing the dispatch, submit the Final Report and the Brief Description of Your Research of the program.Refine the Brief Description of Your Research according to comments from the Center for Educational Planning and Development and create the final manuscript.
  3. Request your supervisor to make and submit [Form 4] Opinion from Advisor.
  4. While making and submitting the documents, register for the course.
  5. The Center for Educational Planning and Development will determine your grade by reviewing and evaluating your application form, final report, brief description of your research, and opinion from advisor.

Students who will travel by other budgets:

  1. Send an email to the Center for Educational Planning and Development stating that you wish to take the course. You must obtain permission from their supervisor in advance to take the course.
  2. Create [Form 1] Research Plan and submit it to the center.
  3. After completing the trip, submit [Form 2] Final Report and [Form 3] Brief Description of Your Research to the center.Refine the Brief Description of Your Research according to comments from the Center for Educational Planning and Development and create the final manuscript.
  4. Request your supervisor to make and submit [Form 4] Opinion from Advisor.
  5. While making and submitting the documents, register for the course.
  6. The Center for Educational Planning and Development will determine your grade by reviewing and evaluating your application form, final report, brief description of your research, and opinion from advisor.

*Please note that this course is not subject to regular web registration. Students are not requested to register this course via CampusPlan.

5. Schedule for receiving course credit

In principle, the semester of course registration (receiving the credit) will be determined according to the date of returning from the travel as follows.

  • Students returning to Japan between January and June: July 31st is the deadline for submission of required documents, and credits will be given in the first semester.
  • Students returning to Japan between July and December: January 31st is the deadline for submission of required documents, and credits will be given in the second semester.

*If you wish to arrange the timing of receiving credit due to reasons such as graduation before the end of the semester, please consult with the instructor in charge of the course (the Center for Educational Planning and Development) in advance.
