In April, the first semester general education Freshman Course for this year was delayed due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. As this course is a requisite for a variety of graduate courses and majors, we were preparing to offer the course during the first semester (April to September) with a revised starting date. However, because the nationwide emergency declaration has been extended through the end of May, adequate time for preparation cannot be guaranteed, creating problems with offering the course. Therefore, the first semester course has been canceled.
As a substitute measure, we are currently reviewing other options, including offering multiple courses next year. However, the outlook at the current moment is unpredictable, and we are not yet certain if will be able to offer the course in the second semester. Therefore, we are implementing special measures, such as offering credit through reports, to students who were planning to complete courses this year and obtain credit for the Freshman Course this semester. Applicable students should contact the Office for SOKENDAI Freshman Course through the administration office for their major as soon as possible.
