[Call for participants] SOKENDAI (Space and Astronautical Science) Introductory program

This program is expected to be held on-site at the JAXA Sagamihara campus. However, it may be changed to remote depending on the situation of COVID-19.


A two-days introductory program will be held for the students who wish to enroll in the Space and Astronautical Science program in the future.

SOKENDAI is considering the transition to the Graduate Institute for Advanced Studies in April 2023, and the Department of Space and Astronautical Science will be reorganized into the Space and Astronautical Science program of the Graduate Institute for Advanced Studies. (The Graduate Institute for Advanced Studies is under planning to be established in April 2023, and the information is subject to change.)

The introductory program consists of lectures and virtual visits to laboratories. The lectures will be given by faculty members of the Department of Space and Astronautical Science. They will talk about basic knowledge as well as cutting-edge topics in their specialized fields for undergraduate students. The participants will visit laboratories and talk with the faculties to see the research environment at ISAS. Also, there will be an occasion to talk with students who are currently studying at ISAS. The program is for domestic students, and the lectures and discussions will be mainly in Japanese.

Although it is supposed to be held locally, it may be changed to remote holding depending on the situation of the spread of new coronavirus infection in the future.

Application for participation

If you want to attend the program, please apply from this registration form by Friday, August 19th, 17:00 JST.
For on-site participants, we will support travel expenses also the accommodation fee if it fits to our condition.
Accommodation shall be arranged by yourself.
Please complete registration no later than August 15th(Mon) 17:00 JST. Detailed procedures will be given individually.

Expected participants

Those who are currently living in Japan and consider to study at the Department of Space and Astronautical Science of SOKENDAI in future. We assume undergraduate students of 1st to 3rd year, but we do not exclude other persons.

  • Language:The lectures and discussions will be mainly in Japanese with some supports in English.
