【Registration Deadline Extended】SOKENDAI & OIST joint CEPD Seminar “Business English for Researchers”
Applying to your first internship, post-doc, and/or researcher position can be intimidating. The process of writing a cover letter and CV/resume in English and corresponding by an email can be especially challenging. However, the process can be made easier by being aware of the formats English cover letters and CVs/resumes follow and knowing some tips for attracting the reader’s attention. In this CEPD seminar, we will go over strategies to improve your CV/resume, cover letter, and email writing though group/pair discussion and lecture. OIST(Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University) students will join in this seminar and interact with SOKENDAI students at the group/pair discussion.
Program Schedule
Tuesday, January 30, 2024 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Friday, February 2, 2024 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
| January 30 | (1) Group Discussion | Share your experiences of writing English emails, CVs/resumes, and cover letters in groups. |
| (2) Lecture | Compare some samples and learn about common structures and useful expressions. | |
| (3) Group Discussion | Find and discuss the problems in the samples presented and distributed as examples. | |
| Homework | (4) Individual work | Suppose you are applying for a job/internship, and write an email, your CV/resume, and cover letter for the position. |
| February 2 | (5) Group Discussion/Pair work | Discuss each other's emails, CVs/resumes and cover letters , talking about impressions, good points and points to be improved. |
| (6) Individual work | Re-edit and submit your email, CV/resume, and cover letter based on feedback received. | |
| After the Seminar | (7) Feedback from the lecturer | Receive submitted assignment with feedback and comments from lecturer. |

- Please register through the Google form above. Your email address, department, student ID, name, etc are required. Each participant must register individually (multiple participants per registration is not allowed).
- Zoom connection information will be sent via email to those registered.
- Attendance for both of the two days is required. For this seminar, we have set a limit on the number of students. If registration exceeds the maximum number, participants will be selected based on their current year of study. We can only accept students who have never taken this seminar before.
