CEPD Seminar “Academic Career Seminar”
This seminar is for graduate students considering academic careers abroad after obtaining their Ph.D. We invite a speaker active in international academia to share what a global career path can look like. You will learn how early-career scientists can best prepare for success in a career.
This year’s speaker is Dr. Yan Ropert-Coudert, who earned his Ph.D. in Polar Science at SOKENDAI (National Institute of Polar Research). After moving to France, he served as Director of the French Polar Institute(IPEV) until March 2025 and is now a research director in marine ecology at CNRS, based at the Centre for Biological Studies in Chizé (CNRS/La Rochelle University). In January 2024, he received the Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur from the French government for his contributions to polar science.
Dr. Ropert-Coudert will talk about how he applied for positions in Europe, the selection process, the academic job market, and work-life balance in European research. OIST(Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University) students will also attend in lecture.
