Response to Declaration of State of Emergency (To Students)

Response to declaration of state of emergency

To students,

On April 7, a state of emergency was declared in seven prefectures (Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Osaka, Hyogo, and Fukuoka). Students should take the following actions to ensure their own health and safety, and to prevent the spread of infection.

As a rule, students belonging to departments located in prefectures subject to the declaration should stay at home. "Staying at home" means staying in a place where the students can maintain their lives while securing an environment where they limit their contact with others as much as possible. Please handle the situation in line with the spirit of this notice, as appropriate for the actual circumstances.

Then, take the following actions.

  • Students must refrain from going outside, except when it is of vital importance.
  • Students must notify the head of their organizational unit and obtain permission before entering the university and the facilities due to unavoidable circumstances associated with their research.
  • Students must take all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of infection, in the process of returning to their families.
  • Each student must take every possible precaution to avoid infection and prevent the spread thereof according to the infectious disease countermeasures published on the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website and other sources.

About Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Students may feel anxious about not being able to learn or do research as normal. First of all, make your own health and safety your top priority, and then try to maintain your learning and research activities as much as possible, such as communicating regularly with your academic advisors via e-mail or videoconferencing systems.

For the time being, the response measures in this request will remain in effect until May 6, when the declaration of state of emergency is due to lose effect.
