Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Information Science and Life Science for Leading Researchers on AI and Data Science

Program Outline
This MEXT scholarship is offered for the special program "Interdisciplinary PhD Program in Information Science and Life Science for Leading Researchers on AI and Data Science", which has been granted to SOKENDAI by MEXT. This program aims at developing next-generation global researchers and highly skilled professionals who are capable of leading researches on data science as well as other scientific fields to which data science approaches can be applied.
For this program, application is open to anybody who has any nationality of a county that has diplomatic relations with Japanese government. However, based on the strategy by Japanese government on accepting foreign students to gain from the advancements of other countries, around 40% of the positions are targeted for applicants from South-East Asian countries in this program.
Monbukagakusho: MEXT (the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship
The MEXT scholarship provides one round-trip airfare to Japan and a monthly stipend, in accordance with the regulations of MEXT. MEXT scholarship recipients are not expected to pay any entrance examination, admission, or tuition fees. International PhD Program for Fostering Global Researchers to Lead Transdisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Applications of Quantum Technology

Types of Programs: Three-year doctoral program
*The new program(from the October 2026 admission) is offered as a Three-year Doctoral Program. It is not the former Five-year Doctoral Program.

Program Outline
This MEXT scholarship is offered for the special program “International PhD Program for Fostering Global Researchers to Lead Transdisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Applications of Quantum Technology” in SOKENDAI. The purpose of the program is to develop the next generation of researchers skilled in quantum applications and capable of competing globally. It provides access to advanced quantum research facilities and promotes interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary education and research focused on quantum technology. This specialized program emphasizes both basic and applied research in space, particle, material, energy, and integrative evolutionary sciences. The Graduate Institute for Advanced Studies of SOKENDAI will accept a total of eight outstanding students for Three-year Ph.D. programs starting in October 2026. These students will focus on the fields mentioned above under this program. Applications are open to anyone of any nationality from countries that maintain diplomatic relations with Japan. At least 50% of the scholarship recipients will be selected from Southeast Asian countries.
