Support Program for Publishing Research Results of Early-Career Researchers (SARTRAS Common Purpose Project)

1. Overview

This program is administered by the Inter-University Research & Education Alliance (IU-REAL) under commission from the Society for the Administration of Remuneration for Public Transmission for School Lessons (SARTRAS). It provides financial support for early-career researchers* to publish research results obtained through collaborative research using facilities of IU-REAL member institutions (National Institutes for the Humanities, National Institutes of Natural Sciences, High Energy Accelerator Research Organization, Research Organization of Information and Systems, and the Graduate University for Advanced Studies, SOKENDAI).

This program provides financial support for one of the following costs. For details on application procedures, please refer to “2. Application Guidelines and Forms (Japanese version only)” for details regarding eligibility requirements, application procedures, and other information.

I. Article Processing Charge (APC)

  • APC required to publish academic papers as open access

II. Academic Books Publishing costs

  • Costs for publishing academic books** (including BPC and CPC for open access publishing through domestic or overseas publishers)

*"Early-career researchers" refers to researchers affiliated with research institutions in Japan who, as of April 1, 2026, are under the age of 45 or have obtained their doctoral degree within the past 10 years.

“Researchers” includes faculty members affiliated with the Center for Educational Planning and Development, faculty members, research fellows, JSPS Fellows and visiting researchers (excluding collaborative visiting researchers) affiliated with the Research Center for Integrative Evolutionary Science, and enrolled (regular) students in the Integrative Evolutionary Science Program (Department of Evolutionary Studies of Biosystems).

**The following works are not eligible:

  • Issue of papers already published or required to be published (e.g., doctoral dissertations)
  • Works difficult to regard as outcomes of collaborative research (e.g., personal research unrelated to collaborative research)
  • Sole-authored publications
  • Publications not intended for commercial sale
