Overseas Travel Insurance

Considering various safety risks when traveling abroad, SOKENDAI provides overseas travel insurance to its students when they travel abroad under the SOKENDAI Student Dispatch Program or the agreement with overseas university. (Insurance fees are paid by SOKENDAI.)

However, this does not apply to cases that other insurance is purchased at one's own expense or with other outside funds, or taking out of the local insurance is required by the laws and regulations of the destination country.

1) Insured person

a) SOKENDAI students traveling abroad under the SOKENDAI Research Dispatch Program

b) SOKENDAI students traveling abroad under the Double Degree / Dual Degree (Cotutelle) / Joint Supervision Program Agreement with an overseas university

2) Insurance period

In general, the period from the time of departure from home until the time of return home is covered.

3) Insurance coverage

Accidental Death & Accidental Permanent Disability The insurance pays in cases where the insured sustains bodily injury resulting directly in the loss of his or her life or a physical impediment. 30 million yen
Medical Expenses & Rescuer’s Expenses

<Medical Expenses>

The insurance pays in cases where the insured receives treatment as a result of an injury or an illness.

<Rescuer’s Expenses>

The insurance pays an indemnity in cases where the aircraft boarded by the insured has disappeared or needs to be transferred to Japan for an injury or illness.

Sickness Death The insurance pays in the event of death due to illness occurred during the trip. 5 million yen
Personal Liability The insurance pays in cases where the insured suffers as a result of being held legally liable for the disability of a third party or the damage to or loss of property of a third party. 100 million yen
Baggage Damage & Personal Effects The insurance pays an indemnity in cases where the insured sustains loss or damages to any personal effects or belongings by an incident of theft, breakage, or fire. 100,000 yen
Checked Baggage Delay The insurance pays for the cost of a change of clothes, etc. purchased due to the late arrival of baggage checked in to the aircraft. 100,000 yen
Flight Delay The insurance pays for the cost of a change of clothes, etc. purchased due to the late arrival of baggage checked in to the aircraft.  20,000yen

*No deductible is set for all coverage items.

*Liability for accidents while driving a car is not included. If you use a rental car or other vehicle overseas, please purchase separate automobile insurance.

*Please purchase your own insurance for compensation other than the above.

*The cause of the illness, the time of onset, the certification of onset, and the time of commencement of treatment will depend on the doctor's diagnosis. If a doctor diagnoses that the illness had developed prior to the trip (pre-existing or pre-existing condition), compensation will not be provided regardless of the insured person's awareness of the illness.

4) Subscription procedure

Please fill out the "Overseas Travel Insurance Application Form" and submit it by email to the section in charge of each program at least one week before departure.

Staff in charge will send you an "insurance identification card" by email.

5) During the trip

Please print and carry your insurance identification card and "Overseas Service Guide" with you.

6) Itinerary Changes and Cancellation

In the event of any of the following changes to the itinerary, please contact the section in charge as soon as possible:

Cancellation of the travel / Change of departure date / Change or addition of destination / Change (extension or shortening) of the period / Errors in the information

7) When an accident occurs

In the event of illness or injury, theft or damage to personal belongings, flight delays, delayed checked baggage, or other accidents, please contact the insurance company in accordance with the instructions in the Overseas Service Guide.
